Simple rules, fairly set.
Last updated: 28 March 2026 · Effective: 28 March 2026
1. What Crucible is
Crucible is an AI-powered study tool. You paste in your notes; Crucible generates exam-style questions, marks your answers, and tracks your progress over time. The service is provided for personal, non-commercial study purposes.
2. Eligibility and accounts
- You must be at least 13 years old to use Crucible. If you are under 18, you confirm you have your parent or guardian's permission.
- You must provide accurate and complete information when creating your account and keep it up to date.
- You are responsible for maintaining the security of your account and password. Notify us immediately at support@crucible.so if you suspect unauthorised access.
- Accounts are personal — you may not share your account with others or allow others to access the service through your account.
3. Acceptable use
You agree not to:
- Upload content that is illegal, defamatory, harmful, or infringes any third-party rights.
- Attempt to abuse, reverse-engineer, exploit, or extract the AI system — including prompt injection, jailbreaking, or automated scraping.
- Resell, sublicense, or redistribute Crucible or its output as your own product or service.
- Use Crucible for any purpose that violates applicable laws or regulations.
We reserve the right to suspend or terminate accounts that violate these rules without notice.
4. Payments and billing
- Paid plans are billed on a monthly or annual basis, starting from the date you upgrade.
- All payments are processed by Stripe. We never see or store your card details.
- Plan changes (upgrades or downgrades) take effect immediately. If you upgrade mid-cycle, you will be charged the pro-rated difference.
- Refunds are at our discretion. If you believe you were charged in error, contact us within 7 days of the charge at support@crucible.so and we will review your case.
- Cancellation downgrades your account to the free tier at the end of the current billing period. Your data and progress are preserved.
5. AI-generated content
- Questions, feedback, and other outputs are generated by AI and may contain errors or inaccuracies.
- Crucible does not guarantee that AI-generated content is correct, complete, or suitable for any particular exam or curriculum.
- You should not rely solely on Crucible for exam preparation. Always cross-reference with your official course materials.
- Your notes are sent to Anthropic's API for processing. Anthropic does not store your content beyond what is required to complete the request. See Anthropic's Privacy Policy for details.
6. Your content
You retain ownership of any notes or content you upload. By using Crucible, you grant us a limited licence to process your content solely for the purpose of providing the service to you. We do not use your notes to train AI models or share them with third parties beyond the processors listed in our Privacy Policy.
7. Data and privacy
How we collect and handle your personal data is explained in our Privacy Policy, which forms part of these Terms.
- You can delete your account at any time from within the app or by contacting us.
- Account deletion permanently removes your personal data and study history within 30 days.
8. Limitation of liability
Crucible is provided "as is" without warranties of any kind, express or implied.
- We are not liable for your exam results, academic outcomes, or any decisions made based on AI-generated content.
- We do not guarantee uninterrupted or error-free access to the service.
- To the maximum extent permitted by law, our total liability to you for any claim arising from your use of Crucible is limited to the amount you paid us in the 3 months preceding the claim.
9. Intellectual property
Crucible, its design, code, branding, and all content we create are owned by us and protected by applicable intellectual property laws. Nothing in these Terms grants you any right to use our trademarks, logos, or other brand elements.
10. Changes to these Terms
We may update these Terms from time to time. When we make material changes, we will update the date above and notify you by email. Your continued use of Crucible after the effective date constitutes acceptance of the updated Terms.
If you do not agree to the updated Terms, you must stop using the service and may delete your account.
11. Governing law
These Terms are governed by the laws of New Zealand. Any disputes shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of New Zealand. Nothing in these Terms limits your rights under the New Zealand Consumer Guarantees Act 1993 or the Fair Trading Act 1986.
